Remembering Clare Siegel

Maryland Family Network mourns the passing of Clare Siegel, our colleague and friend over many years. We knew of her work with children in Baltimore City, and we hired her to run our nascent Early Head Start program which began in 1995.

In recent years, Claire consulted with us, training Policy Council members, coaching those working on getting their Child Development Associate credential, presenting material about infants and toddlers to Maryland’s Family Support Center staff, and taking on many other tasks. Jacques Kelly wrote an obituary about Clare with more details of her career here.

What many of us who knew Clare remember is how gentle and kind she was, just the way you’d imagine an expert in the care of infants and toddlers to be. Clare was patient, intelligent, and selfless, always putting others first with a quiet, unassuming manner. Colleagues at Maryland Family Network said to each other:

It’s hard to imagine a world in which there is no physical presence of Clare. Strong and wise and kind, she made a difference.

Such a gentle and competent soul.

Gentle, wise, and warm. We will all miss her for so many reasons.

Thank you so much, Clare.  We will miss you very much.
