Clare Jean Siegel Memorial Scholarship

The Clare Jean Siegel Memorial Scholarship (CJSMS) is designed to continue the legacy of Clare Jean Siegel’s extensive work with the Head Start Program, specifically in Baltimore City. With this scholarship, which is generously being offered by Clare’s family, we aim to encourage Head Start and Early Head Start employees in Baltimore City to enrich their education through formal degree course work.

Clare’s work was defined by her belief that all children deserve a high-quality education beginning with pre-school, regardless of economic background, ethnicity or race. She believed that the Head Start Program has the potential to make this possible. For many years Clare was the Early Head Start coordinator with Maryland Family Network, and as such, was an integral part of the MFN family. We are looking for current employees of Baltimore City Head Start Centers who want to be part of building upon her legacy.

Any benefit eligible employee (works 20 hours or more) who has successfully completed 6 months of benefit eligible employment, who is not on disciplinary probation, and has been accepted into an accredited degree program in Early Childhood Development or a similar field that will enhance their position in a Baltimore City Head Start classroom is eligible to apply for the scholarship. Deadline for Submissions: March 31, 2019, 11:59 PM.
