Congressional Resolution on Child Care
For those of you who are struggling with the cost of child care – or perhaps have found other arrangements for your child or children in order to avoid the high cost of child care – you will appreciate the resolution introduced last week by members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings is a member).
Rallies will be held around the country in August to highlight the need to support working families by making child care affordable and paying child care professionals a living wage.
National groups supporting this resolution are the National Women’s Law Center and SEIU.
At the press conference announcing the resolution, Fabiola Silvia, a child care provider in Montgomery County, Maryland, described her work caring for small children, and her own struggle to put food on the table while earning minimum wage.
