WHO WE ARE:
The mission of Maryland Family Network (MFN) is to ensure that very young children have strong families, quality early learning environments, and a champion for their interests. We work in collaboration with public and private funders, community-based organizations, parents, and other individuals and agencies to support those who care for young children as families strive to reach their goals. Through two-generation programs that support parents to become economically self-sufficient, raise healthy, successful children, and find quality child care; through regional services that help child care professionals improve their practice; and through public policy advocacy of programs and policies that benefit families with young children, MFN strives to ensure that all Maryland children are cared for by adults who are skilled to raise them in environments that are conducive to growth and development.
PURPOSE:
The Business Consultant will support Maryland Family Network (MFN) and the Child Care Resource Network (MCCRN) in advancing business development, leadership, and program coordination across statewide initiatives, including the Growing Opportunities for Family Child Care (GOFCC) program and other special projects. The Consultant will provide targeted expertise to strengthen the business and operational capacity of child care providers/programs and CCRCs, ensuring alignment with MFN’s State Coordinating Entity (SCE) responsibilities and advancing the goals of the Growing Opportunities for Family Child Care (GOFCC) program and other MFN-led initiatives.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business Coaching and Technical Assistance
- Provide individualized and group business coaching to child care providers, with emphasis on:
- Financial management, recordkeeping, and budgeting.
- Business planning, marketing, and enrollment strategies.
- Use of technology and tools to streamline operations.
- Supporting CCRCs in strengthening their capacity to deliver business coaching and technical assistance.
- Supporting the Assistant Director in developing and adapting resources, templates, and training materials that support provider business sustainability.
PROGRAM & SERVICE DELIVERY SUPPORT:
- Collaborate with MFN and CCRCs to implement business initiatives statewide.
- Support the design and facilitation of Communities of Practices (CoPs) and peer leading opportunities for coaches and providers.
- Participate in planning sessions, professional development events, and/or statewide meetings to ensure business supports are aligned and effective.
DELIVERABLES:
The consultant will provide:
- Business coaching sessions (individual/group) with measurable outcomes.
- Practical business tools, templates, and resources for providers and CCRCs.
- Professional development content to strengthen CCRC business coaching capacity.
- Written recommendations summarizing lessons learned and strategies to improve business supports.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must possess the ability to remain in a stationary position, such as standing or sitting, 50% of the time.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
- Must be able to communicate, express oneself and exchange information with others
Monday-Friday
A maximum of 20 hours per week, up to 12 months, with the potential to renew based on available funding.
