Join Me for Skolnik 2024

We're thrilled to turn the blog over today to MFN's 2024 Sandra J. Skolnik lecturer Dr. Kathryn Anne-Edwards. She is an economist and freelance economic policy consultant who studies labor markets, public policy, and inequality. She has been an opinion writer for Bloomberg, and is a lecturer at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy.

Kathryn Anne Edwards

Child care providers, parents, and educators know the value of high-quality early childhood education and health. But what do economists think? How do we view child care among the range of potential economic investments or economic policy targets, and what can advocates learn from that?

I’m looking forward to being the 2024 Skolnik lecturer to present the economic lens on early childhood. I hope you’ll join me because there is very tangible (and bankable!) value for the economy and for families, when policymakers invest in early care and education. At the lecture I’ll further articulate this value and make the case with an eye toward gender equality, racial equity, and anti-poverty.

On Tuesday, May 7th, make plans to join me and MFN at the 14th Annual Sandra J. Skolnik Lecture On Early Childhood Education & Advocacy at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health from 5:30pm-7:00pm.
